I have never been in a fight in my adult life, and hopefully that will not change, but I'd like to be able to defend myself if I need to. Plus, being able to fight is just plain bad ass. It requires training, dedication, and a hardness that I've been missing in my life for a long time. Everything around me is too soft and comfortable. In order to truly appreciate the softness that I have been able to build for myself I need to experience something that is the complete opposite every now and then.
I wasn't sure which martial art that I wanted to learn, but while I was in Thailand I found out that the oldest Muay Thai stadium in the world, Rajadamnern Stadium, was a few blocks from my apartment. I went to check it out and really liked the fights and the atmosphere was electric. There was a live band playing during the matches that would increase and decrease the tempo and intensity of the music to match the pace of the fight.
After posting pictures I found out one of my close friends was a few months into training and enjoyed it, so that was as good of a reason as any. I took a trial class and have signed up for training.
It has only been a few weeks and I really enjoy it so far, but even after a few months of training calisthenics on my own I am only able to go to class once a week. My body isn't ready for multiple classes a week yet. I'll get there soon enough.
